Clinical Pharmacy - Specialist - WCMC Pharmacy - Full Time - 8 Hour - Variable Shift

Job ID JR0017659

Job Description:

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at John Muir Health drives the enterprise clinical pharmacy program and leads the system initiatives that raise the bar for medication use, quality, and clinical performance. Each specialist maintains a designated primary program focus — such as drug diversion prevention, medication safety, antimicrobial stewardship, formulary management and drug policy, or clinical informatics — and cross-covers the other program areas to ensure continuity during absences, peak demand, and system initiatives. The specialist develops protocols, dashboards, and key performance indicators; leads or co-leads the corresponding committee or workgroup; monitors regulatory and accreditation compliance; benchmarks program performance against local and national best practices; and analyzes clinical data to evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions. This role executes the pharmacy clinical quality plan and is critical to achieving and sustaining the ASHP Center of Excellence in Medication Management designation. The specialist also provides medication and practice-related education and serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents, and partners with medical staff, nursing, quality, and compliance leaders across all health system areas to improve medication use, safety, and outcomes. This is a system-focused quality role rather than a day-to-day patient-facing position; direct patient care is performed only as needed to advance program objectives and validate practice. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist may be scheduled to cover clinical or operational shifts in pharmacy areas as needed to maintain safe staffing, continuity of service, and practice competency.
